82-Year-Old Dunedin Woman Killed in a Pedestrian Parking Lot Accident

Dunedin, FL - Last Monday morning, November 25th, an 82-year-old woman was struck and killed by a pickup truck in the parking lot of her condo complex. According to the Tampa Bay Times, Joan Maiocco, a resident of Mediterranean Manors on Bayshore Blvd. in Dunedin, was walking across the parking lot shortly before 9 a.m. when she was hit and run over by a 1999 Dodge Ram truck that was backing up.

The driver was identified as Vincent Fusari, a 62-year-old man from Palm Harbor. The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said it was a "low speed crash" that does not appear to involve alcohol or drugs.

The accident is still under investigation.

Because of the close proximity of people on foot and cars, parking lots are a scene of many serious pedestrian accidents. Even though drivers are traveling at such low speeds, pedestrian parking lot accidents are very likely and can lead to serious injuries and sometimes death.

Many accidents in parking lots can be avoided if both drivers and pedestrians took the proper precautions. However, if a parking lot accident does occur the victim or the victim's family may have a claim against the driver and recover damages.
