Drunk Driver Going the Wrong Way Causes an Accident in Fort Myers

The Marco Island Sun Times reported a Fort Myers DUI driver caused a serious crash after driving the wrong way in Lehigh Acres early last Thursday morning. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) said the 32-year-old impaired driver was traveling east on 26th Street SW, when he turned on Gunnery Road into oncoming traffic.

While driving the wrong way, the motorist caused a head-on collision with another vehicle. The drunk driver was transported to a local hospital with severe injuries. His passengers who suffered critical injuries were taken to an area hospital, also.

The driver of the vehicle, who was hit head on, was transported to the hospital for serious injuries. FHP believes she might also have been impaired at the time of the crash.

The driver who caused the accident has been charged with DUI, DUI involving property damage, DUI involving serious bodily injury, and driving the wrong way. He is currently being held at the Lee County Jail without bond.

More than 10,000 innocent people are killed by drunk drivers every year. When a driver drinks and drives, they put everyone else on the road at risk, especially their passengers. A passenger, who has been injured by riding with a drunk driver, might have a claim against the DUI driver for the injuries he or she sustained in the crash.

An experienced DUI car accident attorney can investigate your accident to determine who was at fault to pursue a claim for financial compensation for medical bills, loss of wages, damages, and pain and suffering.
