Forty schools, globally and 1,500 across the United States are preparing for 2014 “Walk to School Day,” an annual celebration. The event began in 1997 with a single school’s desire to teach children the health benefits of physical activity, how to read and obey traffic signals and safely cross streets. It all started as a simple idea on a designated day with children and parents and school and local officials walking to school together.
The tradition continues! Together with other community safety advocates, our law firm is pleased to play an active role in teaching elementary age students how to be safe pedestrians. Hundreds of students from Mildred Helms School will join us on October 8th to participate in Walk to School Day.
Some fun activities planned for the event include, a DJ and music provided by Largo Recreation; a tour of a fire truck and ambulance, courtesy of Largo Police Department; and free child safety materials, games and activities supplied by Jim Dodson Law.
It all begins at 7:30 a.m. in the parking lot of Publix Supermarket located at 857 West Bay Drive, Largo!
At 8:15, children will be safely escorted to their nearby school by the Largo PD.
