WSTP News reported a 26 year-old Hudson motorcyclist was killed last Thursday in a Pasco County collision with a pickup truck. At 7 p.m. on Thursday evening, the biker was traveling westbound on State Road 54 on his 2007 Suzuki motorcycle. As he approached Virginia Lane, a Nissan Frontier, heading eastbound, made a left turn into the motorcyclist’s path. The impact of the collision caused the cyclist to be ejected from his bike. He was taken to Trinity Hospital where tragically, he died from the injuries. Law enforcement say the accident is still under investigation.
Florida is the third most dangerous state for motorcyclists, claiming the lives of 383 motorcyclists in 2010. According to researchers from the University of South Florida, most multi-vehicle motorcycle crashes are caused by a driver failing to yield the right of way or turning into the path of a motorcycle. After a collision, motorists frequently tell police, "I never saw the motorcycle coming." These horrible accidents would be avoided if motorists took the time to check twice before changing lanes or pulling out.
