Cyclist Seriously Inured in Sarasota Bicycle Accident

SARASOTA BICYCLE ACCIDENT – A Florida bicyclist is in critical condition after an SUV hit him at Lime Avenue and 10th St in Sarasota at around 7 a.m. Tuesday.

The GMC SUV was traveling northbound on Lime Avenue when the SUV struck the bicycle, which was crossing Lime Avenue’s northbound lane. The cyclist was taken by helicopter to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton where he is listed in critical but stable condition.

The crash is under investigation and police are trying to locate people who witnessed or have information about the crash.

Seventy-six cyclists were killed and 4,600 injured throughout Florida in 2010, making the state one of the least safe in the United States to ride a bike. Sarasota County reported 116 bicyclist injuries that year, but no fatalities.
