Fatal Motorcycle Accident on John Ringling Causeway in Sarasota

The Sarasota Police Department reported that a 31-year-old Sarasota motorcyclist was killed in a crash on the 900 block of the John Ringling Causeway early Saturday morning. The motorcyclist, who witnesses said had been speeding and weaving before the accident occurred, ran his 2005 Suzuki into the rear of 2010 Nissan Sentra, police said. He died at the scene.

Four people, all occupants of the Nissan, were taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital. None of them suffered life-threatening injuries.

Florida has one of the highest motorcycle fatality rates in the United States. In 2010, 383 people died in motorcycle accidents. Florida has a no helmet law for adults.
