MANATEE COUNTY – A semi truck attempting a right turn from the center lane of U.S. 41 crushed the top of a car and trapped the driver inside on Friday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The Bradenton Herald-Tribune reported that the truck was traveling north on U.S. 41 in the center lane, approaching a green traffic light at the intersection with Tallavast Road, and began to make a right turn. The driver, failing to see a Nissan Sentra in the right lane, crashed into the car, crushing its roof, and forcing the car’s 50-year-old driver to lean into the passenger compartment to avoid being seriously injured. He was taken to Manatee Hospital with minor injuries.
The semi truck ultimately stopped at the corner of the intersection, with the Nissan wedged beneath the truck.
FHP charged the 23-year-old truck driver with making an improper right turn.
Semi trucks involved in an accident with a car, because of their great size and weight, are capable of doing significant damage in many cases causing serious injuries or death. If you or a family member has been badly injured in a traffic accident with a large commercial truck, you will need to contact an experienced accident attorney immediately to begin an investigation while the evidence of the truck driver’s fault is still available.
