We wrote about the tragic case of a four-year-old Bradenton girl who was killed as her mother attempted to move the car in the driveway of their home last week. Based on a news report by Bay News 9, this was originally reported as a backover accident. The child was actually struck by the front of the car.
An updated report stated that the poor mechanical condition of the 1992 Lexus was a contributing factor in the child’s death. Investigators said the car had weak brakes and a transmission that could not be put into reverse, causing the car to move forward when the engine was turned on. The neutral safety switch was also not functioning.
