Believe it or not, golf carts can cause a lot of damage to people. The most common injuries that occur are when someone is backed over or gets pinned between two carts by someone they are playing golf with. These generally cause crushing injuries to the legs.
When a golf cart is operated by someone it is considered a dangerous instrumentality much like a car and it should be taken very seriously. And because the courts have labeled them as dangerous instrumentalities the owner of the cart is strictly liable in Florida. They are responsible for anyone using the cart and when they injure someone. So when a golf course rents out their golf carts they would be fully responsible if someone injured someone else and they typically will have the insurance to pay for the damages. Also, in some cases the driver of the golf cart could also be covered under their homeowner's insurance if need be.
