It's perfectly legal to ride a bicycle on the sidewalk in Florida. Sometimes it's a little confusing because when you are riding your bicycle on the street, you are required to go with the flow of traffic. But a bicyclist riding on a sidewalk can go in either direction.
While it's legal to ride your bike on the sidewalk in either direction, it may not be the safest thing to do. Here are a couple reasons why:
1) If a car is pulled up to exit a driveway or parking lot and their intention is to turn right, their attention is focused on the cars coming from the left. A cyclist coming from the driver's right on the sidewalk has great potential to run into the path of the car and a serious accident can occur.
2) Another common way a cyclist could get hit by a driver is when the driver is backing out of a driveway.
