It's important to keep in mind that police officers are not perfect. Like the rest of us they are just people who make mistakes too. When a police officer comes up to the scene of a bicycle crash they sometimes jump to conclusions as to what might have happened and they look for facts that support their conclusions. But there are three big reasons that can lead to an incorrect ticket given to a cyclist:
- The police simply make a mistake by not gathering the right information from the right people at the right time.
- The cop on the scene does not have enough experience, training or time to complete the accident investigation.
- The police have the same prejudices that other people do about cyclists.
