Distracted driving is something we all recognize as a problem, and yet, increasingly more and more people do it. Insurance companies like State Farm and others, carefully track people who admit to using their cellphones to text and use the Internet while driving. And surprisingly, the number of people continues to increase year after year. In other words, more people are doing it while we all know it’s a danger.
This has really had a major impact on the insurance companies because it’s beginning to dramatically affect their losses. So, the insurance companies are paying more because of these distracted driving collisions. Some of the carriers are reporting substantial losses in their automobile operations.
If you have been involved in a crash involving a suspected distracted driver, make sure you gather as much information as you can about what they were doing and report that to your lawyer. This information can be used effectively in understanding the liability of who was at fault and potentially exposing them to punitive damages which are damages designed to simply punish them for wrong doing in a civil case here in Florida.
