The most common denominator of all fall cases is a dangerous walking surface. And, there are two broad categories that this covers:
- Something has accumulated, fallen or been left on the floor. The banana peel on the floor is a classic example. Sometimes this is referred to as a transitory foreign object.
- A defect in the floor or surface itself. Like a broken, cracked or crushed sidewalk. It could be a defect in the way the floor was constructed.
